I can always count on delicious eye candy and inspiring musings over at the DC. Thank you so much, October Boy, for the generous appointment of this award!!!
And so before the music fades and the producer offstage gives the wrap it up signal, I shall move on...
The rules say that I'm to pass this shiny award on to five deserving blogs who currently have under 100 followers. *drumroll* And the Liebsters go to:

~ Scary Mary's. I am convinced we were seperated at birth. Vintage goodness and monster heaven in one blog- LOVE!

~ All Together Dead. This is definetly of the most elegant Halloween blogs I've seen. Always a pleasure to read.

~ The Quirk Shop. The tag line says it all; Growing up is mandatory. Growing up is optional. Hella fun blog.

~ Addicted to Halloween. Anyone who drives a 1973 hearse IS addicted to Halloween... and I tip my hat to that!

~ Pumpkinbrain. I've picked up more than a few ideas from this blog. :)Spookworkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13782773374065676516noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7476843451517720955.post-65853547917172721032011-10-29T17:39:00.000-07:002011-10-29T17:39:09.813-07:00Madame Gartildais ready, and just in the nick of time. :)
The site was used for mass burials in the 1500's, and when the church was constructed three centuries later, over 70,000 bodies had been interred. Church officials, apparently ahead of their time, decided to 'upcycle' the human remains and fashioned furniture, carvings, and a darling chandelier from hundreds of thousands of bones. It is to this day, one of the most popular (and grisly) tourist attractions in the country.

Last time I looked, you coudn't get stuff like THIS at Crate & Barrel...
Was she my own idea? Hardly. I shamelessly plead no-contest unoriginality, your Honor. I can think of a few fantastic fortune teller character props around; the talented Mr Macabre comes to mind immediately.
Stuck a baggy sweatshirt on her and duct taped it to the chair- sloppy yes, but it will be well covered. Now I'm attempting to distribute crumpled newspaper through the shirt, and will cinch it by wrapping 'round with more duct tape. Then, in theory we sould be able to dress her, attach hands, head (originally Witch Gartilda, now known as Madame Gartilda), and mesh together with extra cloth mache at the neck and arms. Her legs will be fitted in later, how is yet to be determined. I've had a lot of questions asking where I purchased this. As followers
of my website know, I collect antique memorial photography -

images of dead people - from the 1800s. This photo was found in
the very back of album that contained an unusual number of
Civil War era death portraits (which is why I purchased it). All of
the other people in the album, living and dead, were identified

by name - this man was not.
Photographer is Professor G.B. Smith. A contact of mine forwarded
this interesting article (link) about the photographer, Smith. Turns
out he was a confederate Civil War prisoner of war photographer.

The finials were made with the hot glue- sand cast method. I sculpted the original piece in polymer clay (just couldn't find a good one to use). Then the original was pressed in a slightly damp sand filled baking dish. Since I needed a bazillion of them, I tossed the glue gun aside and melted the glue sticks in a wrecked old pot, and carefully poured into the impression in the sand. While the glue was still warm, I imbedded a nail in the bottom, about halfway sticking out. The idea is that the fence 1x1's will be predrilled, and the nails will pop in for easy assembly. Trimmed the excess glue, added a coat of primer followed by black acrylic paint, and wah-la- done!

Hope you didn't mind me creeping in your garage! ;)Spookworkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13782773374065676516noreply@blogger.com5tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7476843451517720955.post-53583778688303857832011-08-21T15:25:00.000-07:002011-08-21T15:26:44.493-07:002011 Fence rebuild: Phase 1 Complete
Behold,

It's an oasis in the city, and only an eight minute ferry boat ride from Harbourfront. The parklands are majestic, and many go for bike riding, picnics, the beach, and frisbee golf, but the main draw is Centreville; a turn-of-the-century styled theme park on Centre Island. It's definetly not Six Flags, but for young families or those who like it on the mild side, it's packed full of charm.

Naturally, I look forward to Haunted Barrel Works the most. This dark ride was built in 1970, and few things have changed, but somehow it never gets tired. If you ever have the chance to pay a visit, it's well worth while- just avoid weekends when the crowds descend on Centreville like a plague of locusts!

If Morticia treated herself to some decadent tubby time, I'd imagine she'd use this Pampering Pumpkin Pack... from some of the very best artisan bath and body etailers, this hand picked collection includes;

~Purple Pumpkin Shea Soap from Magic Hands Workshop. Queen of cold process soapers, and sadly, recently out of business. When the news broke, I hauled her stuff like a squirrel with ADHD preparing for a never ending winter, and saved one precious for the prize pack. This moisturizing lavender & pumpkin scented bar is simply exquisite.

~Pumpkin Cake Lip Lust lip balm from Haunt. Her stuff is cult popular, but scarce. Try to catch when her shop opens for a fleeting moment- it happens only a couple of times a year. http://www.haunt.bigcartel.com/
(hint: she's famous for Halloween goodies!)

~Imp Pumpkin Butter from Haus of Gloi. Cute little 2oz jar- ridiculously softening and loaded with pumpkin seed oil! Scent description from the Haus; This little fellow longs to be your bath time companion! Peculiar passion fruit mingling with sun cured apricots, perfectly pink grapefruit juice and innocent whispers of wet mimosa blooms. Great stuff! Available at; http://host.pappapak12.com/~hausofgl/

~Pumpkin Bread Bath Truffle from Skindecent. NOM! Amazing shop filled with tricks and treats... and Canadian to boot! http://skindecent.com/

Good luck to all!!!!
Not sure yet if she's destined for etsy, or if I'd rather build her into a character for the haunt. I've been trying to work on her sister, but my <strike>brian</strike> brain has melted from the heat, and it's all I can do to think straight, much less work on props. On the upside, we're walking around like zombies, so it all works out.
Her core is the ever versitile wig/ hat foam form sculpted over with paperclay, and skinned with cloth mache. Brows, wart (and teeth) are polymer clay.
The fence of harps is incerdibly ornate, and one of the most unique memorial features I've seen. Wish the epitaph was still legible though; we couldn't even make out a date due to the extreme weathering of the limestone.
Usually it's the vintage kitchenware or a dazzling piece of costume jewlery I'm after, but the most exciting thing ever was finding this lot o' Ghostbusters toys in the glass case.

The bidding started at $15, and everytime I had a chance to stop by and check my book-bid, the same guy had bid me up by a lousy dollar. This carried on all month. Determined to win, I hightailed it to the store on the last day to put a final bid in minutes before auction closing, and came away with the box for $52.00. WIN!!!
As if that wasn't a great enough haul, this treasure was on the open stock shelf for two bucks; a 1964 battery operated coin bank in decent working condition. To be honest, the box is way cooler than the bank, which is an undetailed black box with a teeny blue plastic arm that pops up to grab the coin.
Even the paste was wrong, and she's detiorated badly for it. However, she's definetly served her time and has been enjoying early retirement in her laundry room roost. The water meter reader guys think I'm nuts, no doubt. And so, I'm going to start laying plans for her successor and see how far we get. (A reader asks)
Q: This unusual bat fixture hung in the front hall of my grandparent's home in Peterborough.
The house dates back to 1870, but I am not sure if the fixture was original to the house. The fixture is brass-plated and has no identifying marks. The bat measures 53cm (21inches) wing tip to wing tip, and 56cm (22inches) from top to bottom. When the light is on, it casts a long winged shadow on the ceiling. No one in the family wants to sue the fixture in their homes nor does anyone want to part with it.
We would appreciate any information about it age, place of manufacture and current price.
Betty, Peterborough Ontario.

A: Because so many have a bat phobia, it is easy to understand why your relatives do not want this ceiling fixture. But any enthusiast of the rare and wondrous would be thrilled to have this piece.
Your fixture could have been made by German manufacturer Franz Stubgen, a specialist in metal items including lamps. His company logo is a Fledermaus (German for bat) and was registered in 1892. But I suspect it's more likely this piece was made in the U.S. in the early 1900's.
Your lamp would have a shade covering the light bulb and a suitable one from the period could be found easily . The fact your bat light is the original, functioning and a delightful conversation piece adds up to a sure value of $1,000 plus.
Guess it's time to reveal seven <strike>fascinating</strike> things about myself:

1) I daydream about surfing, but never actually have. I do own a prop surf board and several Ron Jon tee shirts which *officially* makes me a hodad.

2) Need to sleep more hours than a house cat to function like a normal human being.

3) Makeup artist by trade.

4) Everything I need to know, I learned from watching Spongebob.

5) Never had a taste nor tolerance for alcohol, but am a known tea addict. (always hot with milk and honey!)

6) Am incredibly lucky to married to the most kind hearted, smart, caring and decent human being in the world. And he's cute, too, really, REALLY cute.

7) Was just made fun of for winning the "Versatile Booger" award.

Customs vary from country to country, but modern festivities commonly involve revelers dressed as witches feasting and dancing around bon fires to officially welcome spring, celebrate fertility and drive away evil spirits. Sounds like a good party!

Disney famously portrayed Walpurgisnacht in the Night On Bald Mountain sequence from Fantasia. I didn't even realize this until mumsy pointed it out... but I do remember the Demon scaring the pants off me as a kid!
Stuck some led candlesticks in this hideous candelabra (did someone actually use this on their dining room table?! Yikes!), and am melting opaque whie glue 'wax' drips over a Magic Sculp armature. Second small candelabra is in the background if I can get around to it!
Spookworkshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13782773374065676516noreply@blogger.com1
